Comprehensive Prenatal Care

The prenatal care that you receive from the midwives at Home Sweet Home Birth is very personal. We offer a comprehensive holistic program of care. Your individualized care begins with your first prenatal visit. You can expect our prenatal visits to last at least one hour. During our visits we will be checking in on you and your baby. We make time during each visit for you to ask questions.

We want to get to know you and for you to get to know us. We are embarking on a very special journey and the relationship that we develop is very important to us. Some routine elements of your prenatal care will be: checking your blood pressure, checking your urine for any signs of imbalance, listening to your baby's heartbeat, measuring the height of your uterus and figuring out what way your baby is laying in your womb and estimating how big he/she is, asking you how you have been feeling and how your baby has been. We will give you a lot of written information to take home and read; some homework and a lot of support. We provide excellent Prenatal Vitamins and DHA (fish oil) supplements at discounted prices. We also will draw your blood a couple of times during the pregnancy to check on your iron levels, your immunities and to rule out any unknown illness. A complete pelvic exam with cultures to rule out sexually transmitted infections is provided on request.

We provide a program of education for pregnancy, nutrition, labor support, baby care, and general women’s health. Your family and friends are welcome to participate in your care. This method of care gives you confidence in your ability to give birth, balancing the human touch and technology.

Prenatal visits are made to all clients every 3 weeks. These visits are usually made at the center, but other arrangements may be made to conduct these meetings at the home of the client if it is needed. There will be one visit at 33 weeks and another at 35 weeks, then every week until the baby is born.
